User Experience (UX) Interaction Designer

The User Experience (UX) Interaction Designer is responsible for providing UI design expertise to enable the development teams to build global products with aesthetic appeal and high usability.


They will work closely with  cross functional teams, product managers, technical team members, clinical collaborators and 3rd party design companies. In this role applicants should expect to be involved in user research analysis, requirements definition, conceptual design, interaction planning and interaction specifications. They will also be expected to evolve and create the visual aspects of the software product.

Main accountabilities

 

  • In collaboration with product owners is responsible for the user experience, user interface design and navigational flow of products.
  • Develop effective UI designs by performing thorough analysis of requirements and generating appropriate user interaction design solutions to satisfy customer goals. Proactively proposes alternate solutions where appropriate.
  • Works with cross functional teams to ensure successful delivery of aesthetically pleasing products. 
  • Takes responsibility for UI planning for the whole customer problem/requirements.
  • Acts as a design mentor/consultant to other staff by promoting good UI design and graphical design practices.
  • Plays a key role in defining and adhering to quality management processes to support UI design in compliance with medical regulatory requirements.
  • Proposes how advances in new interaction design ideas can be implemented by TMVS.

The post holder may be reasonably required to perform other duties, tasks and/or responsibilities from time to time.

 


Required education, skills and experience

 

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • An excellent academic record, including an honours degree qualification in interaction design, a related discipline or significant relevant experience.

Desirable

  • Expert knowledge of relevant design tools e.g. Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Working knowledge of XAML, Flash or similar and related editing tools.

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience in UI design and delivery of major products or product features.
  • Prior experience of working within a scientific/technical environment.
  • Proven track record of generating aesthetically pleasing and functional user interface designs.
  • Experience involving UI requirements definition with significant customer communication.
  • Evidence of having successfully made design decisions for projects that delivered products or product features in time, to budget and to specification.
  • Experience of evaluating different ways of working.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a Medical Domain
  • Working knowledge of usability standards
  • Working knowledge of formal quality management systems and of relevant external standards and guidance, such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and TickIT.
  • Experience of Interaction Design, including for example ethnographic research / contextual enquiry
  • Experience in working with agile project management methodologies
